A C cup on the Indian chart means your bust measures two to three inches more than your band number. It is also the most misassigned letter on the scale, because most people measure to the nearest inch, the reading lands on a boundary, and the boundary has a rule most people do not know.

What does a C cup actually mean?
The band is your underbust rounded up to an even number, plus four inches. The letter is your bust minus that band number, and C is the third step of six: a difference of two to three inches (5 to 8 cm).
On UK charts the same body carries an E (a DDD in the US) on a band four numbers smaller: an Indian 34C is a UK 30E. The bra size converter runs the conversion for every size.

In each row the bust runs two to three inches (5 to 8 cm) past the band number. Two of these sizes have their own guides: 32C and 36C.
Why is C the letter people get wrong?
The letters change at whole inches, and the printed ranges make the call look ambiguous: B reads as one to two, C as two to three, and the number two appears in both. The rule resolves it upward. A difference of exactly two inches is a C, not a B, and exactly three is a D, not a C. Most people measure to the nearest inch, which parks their reading directly on those lines, and a reading on the line always takes the higher letter.
Fit confirms what the tape suggests. A cup that wrinkles or gapes at the top is a letter too big; a bust that spills over the edge is a letter too small. Spill at the boundary means the C was right.
The same rule carries into sized products with no adjusters to hide behind. Is a C cup big?
The question has no single answer, because volume depends on the band the letter sits on. A 28C is a bust of 30 to 31 inches; a 40C is a bust of 42 to 43. Both are C, and each letter is measured against its own band, so the 40C holds considerably more. On the middle bands a C is the third step of a six-letter scale, which is as close to medium as the chart gets, and the chart does not really do medium.
What are the sister sizes for a C cup?
Written the standard way, band up on the left and band down on the right: 38B ← 36C → 34D. Cup volume stays roughly constant across all three; band tension is what changes.

In the middle of the chart both directions are stocked. At the edges they are not: a 28C's band-down sister is 26D (unstocked), and a 40C's band-up sister is 42B (unstocked). Every pair is marked in bra sister sizes.
