A 32C is a narrow band with a middling cup letter, and it is one of the two sizes people most often end up wearing by accident. The other is 34B.
If you have not measured yet, our bra size calculator does the arithmetic and returns sister sizes in one step.
What size is a 32C bra?
Indian band sizing takes your underbust, rounds it up to an even number and adds four. So a 32 band is built for someone measuring roughly 27 to 28 inches underneath, not 32.
The letter is the difference between bust and band. C is two to three inches.
| Inches | Centimetres | |
|---|---|---|
| Underbust | 27 to 28 | 69 to 71 |
| Bust | 34 to 35 | 86 to 89 |
| Difference | 2 to 3 | 5 to 8 |
On UK and US charts, which use the underbust itself as the band, the same body is a 28E and a US 28DDD; EU charts call it a 60F. The bra size converter lines up all four systems.
Is 32C or 34B bigger?
They hold a similar amount. That is the whole answer, and it surprises people who expect the higher letter to win.
They are sister sizes. A cup letter is measured against its own band, so the C on a 32 and the B on a 34 land in roughly the same place. What actually differs is the band, and the band is what holds a bra up. The 32 sits tighter around the ribcage, the 34 sits looser.
Which means the useful question is not which is bigger but which band you need. Reach behind you and pull the band away from your back: if it lifts more than about an inch, or if it has crept up between your shoulder blades by evening, it is too loose. On a 34B that points straight at 32C.
Is 32C big or small?
Middling, and the letter is doing more work in that impression than it deserves.
The band is on the narrow side of what Indian brands stock, which runs roughly 30 to 44. The cup letter sits in the middle of a range that goes A to F with no DD. Put together, a 32C is an unremarkable size that reads as bigger than it is because people compare letters without checking bands.
A C on a 32 band holds noticeably less than a C on a 40 band. Same letter, different amount, because the letter is only ever a difference.
Is 32B or 32C bigger?
32C, by about an inch of difference between bust and band.
Same band, so both sit identically around your ribcage. If a 32B band is comfortable but you are spilling over the top of the cup, 32C is the direct fix and nothing else needs to change.
Sister sizes when 32C is nearly right
Move the band one step and the letter the opposite way:
34B ← 32C → 30D
All three hold a similar volume, differing in how firmly the band sits.
The rules that matter when you are actually trying things on:
- Band rides up at the back, cup fits: go down to 30D
- Band comfortable, overflowing the cup: stay on 32 and go up to 32D
- Band digs in or leaves marks, cup fits: go up to 34B
A cup that seems too small is often a band that is too loose, because a loose band lets everything sit lower than the cup was cut for. Try the sister size before you decide the cup is wrong.
When there is nowhere to put the band
Your size only helps while the outfit gives the bra somewhere to sit. Backless blouses, halter necks, deep V necklines and low saree drapes take away the band, the straps, or both.
What works without either:
- A strapless adhesive bra in your cup size, which sticks to skin and keeps its shape with no band and no straps. It is made in 32C, so you can order the size you just worked out.
- Lift tape for necklines a moulded cup cannot follow, since you place it where the outfit needs it.
Where you want coverage rather than shape, nipple covers do that on their own.
The short version
A 32C fits an underbust of 27 to 28 inches with a bust two to three inches larger. It holds close to the same cup as a 34B, so if you own both and one keeps riding up, the band is telling you which to keep. Go to 30D for a firmer band or 32D for more room in the cup.
The full measuring method is in our bra size chart for India, and the sister size is covered in 34B bra size. The band's four letters, and the boundary where B becomes C, are worked through in the 32 bra size guide.
