DD is the cup letter that comes after D on labels that use it. It means a bust four to five inches bigger than the band number. Our chart, like many Indian charts, runs A to F with no double letters and calls that same step E. So a 34DD on a bra label and a 34E on our bra size chart describe the same measurements.
That holds for Indian-sized labels. A British or American 34DD is a different body, which the section further down explains.
What does DD mean?
A cup letter is a difference: bust minus band, one letter per inch. D is three to four inches. The next step, four to five inches, needed a name, and brands split. Some called it DD and pushed E one step further along. Others went straight from D to E.

So when you move between brands, a DD on one may be an E on another, and the bra is the same.

On Indian sizing the band is the underbust rounded up to an even number plus four.

A 34DD in cm, then, is an underbust of 74 to 76 and a bust of 97 to 99.
How big is a DD cup?
It depends entirely on the band. A 30DD has a 34 to 35 inch bust. A 38DD has a 42 to 43 inch bust. Those are the same letter and very different bras, because the letter measures the gap between bust and band, not the amount of breast.
DD sounds large because double letters sound like a jump. It is one inch more than a D. On a 32 or 34 band it is an ordinary size, and one that women often measure into once the underbust is part of the calculation, after years in a 36C that fit the bust and rode up at the back.
Is a 34DD the same as a 36D?
They are sister sizes. Going up one band and down one letter keeps the cup volume about the same, so a 36D cup holds roughly what a 34DD cup does. The band is the difference: a 36 is cut for a ribcage two inches bigger, so it sits looser.

The swap is worth knowing because Indian shelves often stop at D. It works best if your correct band already feels tight. If the band fits exactly, the sister's looser band will carry less of the weight, and at this cup size the band does most of the carrying. Bra sister sizes has the full mechanics.
What if the label is UK or US sized?
Then the same letters mean something else. British and American bands use the underbust without adding four, so the band number is four smaller for the same ribcage, and the cup letter lands three steps higher for the same bust. A UK DD is a B on our chart.

To tell which system a label uses, look at the brand's own chart. If a 29 to 30 inch underbust is listed as a 34 band, it is Indian sizing. If the same underbust is listed as a 30, it is UK or US sizing. The bra size converter translates in both directions.
What can a DD wear from our range?
