A 34A is a mid-range band with the smallest cup letter on the chart. It is also the size where the difference between Indian and international labelling shows up most clearly, so check which chart you are reading before you order anything.

What a 34A measures
Indian band sizing is your underbust rounded up to an even number plus four inches. A 34 band is cut for someone measuring about 29 to 30 inches underneath.
The letter is the difference between bust and band, and on Indian charts A starts at no difference at all.

Why an A cup is not the same everywhere
On Indian charts, A means a difference of zero to one inch, and the letters climb from there: B at one to two, C at two to three, and so on to F.
On UK and US charts, the band is your underbust with nothing added, and A starts at one inch of difference rather than zero. The letters are offset by a full step, and the band numbers are four inches apart.
So the same body gets different labels. If a size that fits you here looks alarming on a British site, or an A cup there does not correspond to an A cup on the rail in front of you, this is why. Neither system is wrong. They are different conventions, and the only one that matters is the one used by whoever you are buying from.

Is 34A or 34B bigger?
34B, by about an inch of difference between bust and band. Same band, one letter up.
Because the band is identical, they feel the same around your ribcage. That makes the comparison a clean test: if a 34A digs in exactly as much as a 34B, the band is your problem and no change of letter will address it.
The gaping cup problem
At an A cup the most common complaint is not a cup that is too small but one that will not sit flat: a gap at the top edge, or fabric that creases when you move.
Two things cause it, and they need opposite fixes.
The obvious cause is a cup that is genuinely too big. Test it by leaning forward from the waist, letting everything settle, then standing up and looking at the top edge. If there is still a gap you can slide a finger into, the cup is too large, and going down a letter or into a moulded shape will settle it.
The other cause is a band that is too loose, which rides up your back and tips the cups away from your chest. That opens a gap at the top even when the cup is exactly right. Pull the band away from your back on the loosest hook: more than about an inch of give and the band is what needs changing.
The second is far more common than people expect, and it looks exactly like the first.
Sister sizes when 34A is close but wrong
Move the band one step and the letter the opposite way:
34A → 32B
This size has only one neighbour. Going down a band gives you 32B, which holds a similar cup on a firmer band. Going up a band would mean dropping below A, and Indian charts have nothing below A, so there is no size in that direction.
Practically:
- Band rides up at the back, cup fits: go down to 32B
- Band comfortable, cup gaping: stay on 34 and look at cup shape rather than letter, since you are already at the smallest
- Band digs in, cup fits: try a 36A, but note it is not a sister size. There is no letter below A to drop to, so the cup gets slightly larger along with the band rather than staying level
When the outfit leaves nowhere for a band
Backless blouses, halter necks, deep V necklines and low saree drapes remove the band, the straps, or both. An A cup has an advantage here that larger sizes do not: there is less weight for an adhesive to hold, so strapless options tend to be more comfortable and stay put longer.

A 34A fits an underbust of 29 to 30 inches with a bust up to an inch larger. On an Indian chart A begins at no difference at all, which is a step below what A means in the UK, so check which convention a size chart is using before you order. If the cup gapes, check the band before you change the letter.
