30A bra size: the smallest size most shops actually stock

A 30A fits an underbust of about 25 to 26 inches with a bust up to an inch larger. The A describes a small difference between two measurements, not a small person, and it is the size where sister-size advice quietly stops working.

A 30A is a 30 band with an A cup: an underbust of about 25 to 26 inches, and a bust up to an inch bigger. On most Indian size rails it is the smallest size on the shelf, which gives it a reputation it does not deserve. The measurements are ordinary. The stocking is not.

Not sure it is your size? The bra size calculator turns two measurements into an answer, sister sizes included.

What a 30A actually measures

On Indian sizing the band is your underbust rounded up to an even number, plus four inches. A 30 band fits an underbust of about 25 to 26 inches.

The letter is the difference between bust and band. A is anything under one inch.

Inches Centimetres
Underbust 25 to 26 64 to 66
Bust 30 to 31 76 to 79
Difference 0 to 1 0 to 3

On UK and US charts, which use the underbust itself as the band, the same body is a 26D; EU charts call it a 55D. The bra size converter lines up all four systems.

Is 30A small?

The band is on the narrow end of the range, and the cup describes a small difference. Neither says anything more than that.

An A cup is not an absence of bust. It is a bust that sits close to the ribcage it is measured against, which is a shape, not a shortfall. The letter system starts at A for a zero-inch difference and climbs one letter per inch, so A is simply the first entry in an ordinary sequence that runs to F. Reading it as "barely there" is a habit the alphabet created, not the tape measure.

It helps to keep the two axes separate. Band size tracks your frame. Cup letter tracks the difference. A 30A is a narrow frame with a close-set bust, and there are 36As and 38As walking around with the same letter on a much wider frame. The letter tells you nothing until you know the band it sits on.

The sister size problem at 30A

Every size has neighbours holding similar cup volume on a different band, reached by moving the band one step and the letter the opposite way. An A cup only has one, because there is no letter below A to trade down to:

30A → 28B (band down, letter up)

And here the advice runs out, because 28 bands barely exist in Indian shops. The maths offers you 28B and the market mostly declines to sell it. Our sister sizes guide covers how the swaps work when both directions exist; at 30A you should know the escape hatch is largely theoretical.

That is less of a problem than it sounds, because a 30 band is stocked, including by us, and most 30A fit complaints are solvable on the 30 band itself. If the doubt is about the letter rather than the band, the 30 bra size guide compares all four cups the band comes in.

When the band fits but the cup does not

The common 30A complaint is gaping: the band sits level and firm, and the top edge of the cup stands away from the body. That is a cup-shape problem, not a size problem, and it has fit answers rather than size-swap answers.

  • Shallower cup shapes follow a close-set bust better than deep moulded ones. If a style gapes, the fix is usually a different construction, not a smaller number.
  • Adjust the straps before judging a cup. A loose strap reads as an empty cup.
  • If a cup still gapes everywhere, check the difference again with a tape. Bodies change, and a measured zero-inch difference has its answer in the first table on this page.

Where 30A is easy to buy

The stocked range of our strapless adhesive bra starts at exactly this size, so backless, halter and deep-neck outfits are covered without a band at all. Adhesive styles also sidestep the gaping problem, because a cup that adheres to skin cannot stand away from it.

A close-set bust is also the easiest case for going without cups entirely: coverage from a simple cover, nothing else needed. The 30B post covers the next letter up on this band if your measurements sit near the boundary.

The short version

A 30A fits an underbust of 25 to 26 inches with a bust up to an inch larger. The A is a difference, not a verdict, and it sits on the narrowest band most shops stock. Its only sister size, 28B, is technically correct and practically unbuyable in India, so solve fit on the 30 band: shallower cups for gaping, straps adjusted before judging, and adhesive styles where the outfit removes the band anyway. The full method is in our bra size chart for India.
