The defining feature of a spaghetti strap is that it is thin. A standard bra strap is wider than it, a bralette strap is usually wider than it, and even the delicate ones tend to be wider than it. So the usual trick of hiding a strap underneath the garment's own strap does not work here, and no amount of adjusting will make it work. Once you accept that, the options get clearer.
Why clear straps are not the answer
They get recommended constantly and they disappoint just as constantly. Transparent plastic straps do not disappear against skin: they catch the light, they show as a shiny line in photographs, and they tend to look more conspicuous than a plain strap would have. When a strapless bra is enough
Whenever the dress keeps a normal back. A spaghetti strap dress is often just a strapless dress with two decorative straps added, and if the bodice and back are intact, a strapless bra sits underneath entirely happily. This is the most comfortable route by some distance, because it is the only one that still gives you a band, and a band is what actually carries weight.

When to go adhesive
When the dress drops at the back, scoops low at the sides, or is cut deep enough at the front that a centre gore would show. When the neckline goes deep as well as the straps being thin, or when the dress is cut in a way no fixed cup shape fits inside. The option people skip: let it show, on purpose
A visible strap only looks like a mistake when it looks accidental. A bralette or a bra with fine straps in a colour that clearly coordinates with the dress, worn deliberately, reads as styling rather than as an oversight. This works best with a slip dress, where the aesthetic already borrows from lingerie, and it fails when the bra is nearly but not quite the right shade, which reads as an attempt to hide that did not come off.
It is the most comfortable option after the strapless bra, it costs nothing to try in front of a mirror, and it is worth considering before committing to an evening of adhesive.
If the dress needs shape rather than support
Some slip dresses only need smoothness. What if you wear a bigger cup?
Take the banded option whenever the dress leaves it available, because a well fitted strapless bra will be more comfortable across an evening than anything adhesive at larger sizes. When the back is open and adhesive is the only route, expect shape and a modest lift rather than the held feeling of a band, and choose a dress with a lined or structured bodice so the garment shares the work.
